So what makes us want to read books? Maybe it’s because of the good storytelling or the great characters and their motivation or maybe even the chance to see a brand new world from the authors eyes. Whatever the reason is, book lovers everywhere love the chance to get their hands on a good book so here are a few suggestions.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians
A great fantasy novel franchise written by Rick Riordan that puts a modern spin on tales of Greek mythology. It follows the adventures of Percy Jackson, a demi-god son of Poseidon as he attends a camp that trains others like him to navigate the real world. Read all about his adventures as he fights monsters, hangs out with his friends and saves the world along the way.
The Great Gatsby
A classic American novel set in the 1920’s. The book focuses on Jay Gatsby, a man who fell in love with a girl of a different social standing. Because of this, he feels he cannot give her the life she deserves, so he leaves and returns five years later a very wealthy man. However, things change in five years and she is married to someone else. That doesn’t deter him and he sets on a mission to win back the girl of his dreams.
13 Reasons Why
Whether you’re a fan of the 2017 hit TV series or not, this book is worth reading. The book follows Clay Jenson, a high school student who one day receives a set of cassette tapes from a fellow student who committed suicide weeks prior. The tapes tell the story of Hannah Baker and consists of 13 tapes, each dedicated to a person she feels was responsible for her death. The people on the tapes are to listen to them, and pass them on the next person on the list. If they fail to do so, they get released to the rest of the world.
Catcher in the Rye
Another classic must read is J.D Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye, a book of teenage rebellion. Teenager Holden Caulfield is expelled from his private school and decides to leave school two days earlier for a chance to explore New York City before he must return home. The book follows his adventure in the city and all the new and interesting characters he meets along the way.
