Graduated?Life after university as an unemployed graduate.

There is a saying that goes,”Education is the key to success”, which means that having a solid education foundation can help you pave your way to success. However, this is not always the case for most South Africans.According to Quarterly Labor Force Surveys, South Africa is one of the countries with a high unemployment rate in the African continent, with a staggering 27 % of graduates.

After obtaining your qualification and gracing the stage on your graduation day, reality is that unemployment awaits you.The pressure to get a job and start living high also starts to kick in.Another harsh reality is that as much as you are holding a qualification for a specific field, this does not guarantee you a job placement after you have graduated. You still have to go through job hunting, securing and passing an interview.

This, however, does not need to be stressful but will require patience. Just make sure you have an updated CV with good previous work experience (if you are a Journalism graduate, writing for your campus publication will work as a good work experience) and references.

Register to a legit recruitment agency, surf the internet for advertised job posts and be on the lookout for scammers.Remember, there are thousands of other unemployed graduates who are also looking for jobs, so patience and perseverance are mandatory.
