Every Drop Counts- Ways On How To Conserve Water At Home

With the water crisis happening in South Africa we need to use water with caution. The department of water affairs has launched a campaign which invites all South Africans to talk about water conservation.

According to isotherm, the lead singer of freshlyground Zolani Mahola said on the campaign, ” we must recognise that we only have one world and there is only so much in this world, and we are so many.” Zolani is one of the first South African celebrities to support the campaign and helped create theme song for this initiative.

Another South African woman who believe and support the campaign is Hanli Prinsloo. She shared her passion for water and also is a founding member of I AM WATER.

Below are the ways we can use to save hundreds of gallons in water:

*Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth. Water comes out of the average faucet at 2.5 gallons per minute. Don’t let all that water go down the drain while you brush.

*Shower over a bucket or place the bucket in the corner of the shower where it can collect runoff water. Either use this water to flush the toilet, mop floors or water your garden.(Zolani Mahola’s tip)

*Turn off the tap while washing your hands. You don’t need the water to run while you’re scrubbing your hands. Turn the faucet off after you wet your hands until you need to rinse.

*Fix your leaks. Fixing leaky faucets can mean big water savings.

*Cut your showers short. Speed things up in the shower for some serious water savings.

*Head to the car wash. If you feel like washing your car, take it to a car wash that recycles the water, rather than washing at home with the hose.
